Dialogue writer-actor Manu Rishi never imagined that he would get a chance to direct a film based on a story he wrote. But in an interesting turn of events, producer Amit Chandra, who is making the Vivek Oberoi-Mallika Sherawat starrer Kismat Love Paisa Dilli, has signed him on for his new project, titled Sexy Thappar.

“I had written a two-page story and given that to Sanjay Routrey, who was executive producer of Ekk Deewana Tha (EDT). He recommended my name to Chandra of LAC (Love Action Comedy) Films, with whom I signed the contract,” says Manu, who also acted in director Gautham Menon’s EDT. Manu happens to be one of the three directors signed on for Sexy Thappar.

The film is a revenge comedy, he reveals. “The film revolves around a girl who is focused on achieving her goal in life,” says Manu, whose next film as an actor, Life Ki Toh Lag Gayi, starring Ranvir Shorey, releases next month.

He also admits that with Sexy Thappar, he has tried to weave together a convincing story that takes cues from real life. “I wanted to write something that excites the producers. like Kahaani where the story was so strong that producers were surprised that something of that kind can also happen. Also, Sexy Thappar is a strong character-driven film,” says Manu.

Ask him whether he has roped in any actors for the film and he says, “I have someone in mind but can’t reveal the name until she is signed.”
