Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for directing movies such as Black Friday and Dev D, went back to his alma mater on Saturday to renew his college memories. Kashyap, who graduated from Hans Raj College in Delhi University (DU), was in the city for the promotion of his upcoming film — Gangs of Wasseypur.
His visit to the college lasted for six hours, during which, he met up with the principal of Hans Raj College, VK Kwatra, and the students. When asked about his college days, Kashyap said, “Those were the days of innocence.”
As a backbencher in college, Kashyap was a shy student, but the one thing that he always raised his voice against was ragging. “There are two kinds of ragging, one that is healthy and the other that affects the person physically and mentally. When ragging becomes serious, it can have a very negative impact on the victim. When I was in college, ragging wasn’t as serious as it is now, but I would always fight against it and did not support it at all,” he said.
The maverick director, who graduated from the college in 1992, loved to hangout at the canteen. “We used to hang out at Anthony’s canteen, which was the first place that caught my attention when I came here. It now triggers many happy memories,” he said. Kashyap relived these memories by having a meal of his favourite chholay bhature with the staff members of the college at the canteen.
Kashyap, who was a hosteller during his campus days, also made a visit to his old room as he explored the college. He even posed for pictures with the current occupants of the rooms.
His message to the students was that they should follow their dreams, as “it is the only way that you will get what you want”.
