So far he was known as Abhishek Bachchan’s buddy who carried their friendship into the movies too. “Yeah, I could replace AB’s heroines, my hair is certainly long enough but I’m not sure he’d want to romance me,” chuckles Sikander Kher.
Now, Anupam and Kirron Kher’s actor son has another best friend, Omi Vaidya. The unit of Players jokingly calls them Changu-Mangu because they are invariably together. Mention Silencer from 3 Idiots and Sikander swoons in mock ecstacy, “Oh My God Omi, I’m in love with him! We went out for a candlelit dinner on Valentine’s Day and fell asleep sitting, our eyes wide open. Maybe Karan (Johar) will cast us in Dostana 3.”
It’s this ready wit and good humour that has resulted in a bonding between the two young actors. “Omi’s closest to my age in this team and though he doesn’t play golf—in fact, I doubt if he plays any games—he’s a seriously funny guy who makes me crack up and that’s rare,” admits Sikander.
“Usually, I don’t do more than smile. But after looking at Omi, I just start laughing. It helps that he’s a super actor too and hanging around together we can work on our lines without making it seem like homework. ”
The tall, dark, rugged actor is quite a hit with the locals who’ve dubbed him a ‘rock star’. Thrilled with the compliment, Sikander is hoping that Players will help resurrect his career. “Directors Abbasbhai and Mustanbhai are the real rockstars,” he asserts.
“I still watch Baazigar even though I know it like the back of my hand. They’re masters of the game and have the formula down pat. That’s the reason when offered a role in this film, my instant response was, ‘Yes sirs.’ I will be at Chandan theatre, watching this Abbas-Mustan film with the audience, first day, first show.”
