Touted as the next big thing in Bollywood, actor Arjun Kapoor says actor Salman Khan is the reason behind his entry to the Hindi film industry. “Salman is my elder brother. Once, long back, he had told me that he thought I was cut out for acting, and should try my hand in it. That time, I was really obese (140 kg), and couldn’t imagine myself as an actor. Salman literally took me under his wings. I travelled with him for almost two years while he was working on Veer and Wanted, and worked out with him. He believed in me and that’s why I am here today,” says Arjun.
In deed, the 26-year-old son of filmmaker Boney Kapoor is all excited and pepped up about his foray in the industry with the much talked about film, Ishaqzaade, where he is paired opposite actor Parineeti Chopra. “I know there are huge expectations from me, but I am at ease with it. It’s like I am waiting for the exam, and I am confident about my preparation. Right now, my aim is to be a good actor. I want people to watch our film,” says Arjun.
Talking about his character in Ishaqzaade, he says, “I play the character of Parma in the film, which is set in a fictitious town in North India. He is someone who speaks and acts before he thinks. He thinks he is a stud. He rarely plans. And most importantly, he never thinks that he could be wrong. His grandfather is a powerful politician, so he feels his life is sorted, and when he meets Parineeti, who is much like him, the story takes a new turn.” Arjun however adds that in real life, he is just the opposite of Parma. “I think a lot before I do anything in life. Parma is open about his emotions, while I like to keep my emotions personal . I’d have to let Arjun depart from myself to do justice to Parma,” he says.
Moving on, Arjun reveals that he never wanted to debut with a typical chocolate boy role. “I was very clear that I wanted to do something different so that people notice me and my character stands out,” says Arjun.
Talking about his equation with dad Boney, he says, “He’s always been the protective dad, and I want him and my entire family to be proud of me. He is excited about my debut, and I’ll work with him, some day.” Lastly, taking about his mom, Mona Kapoor, who passed away last month, he says, “Mom looked ahead. I always want to make her happy and proud of me wherever she is.”
