Most families of the subjects of biopic flicks seem miffed with the makers for one reason or the other, but golfer Jeev Milkha Singh has only praises for Rakeysh Omprakash’s film on his dad. Titled Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the film, which stars actor Farhan Akhtar as legendary athlete Milkha Singh, is up for a July release.
“I think Farhan has done a fantastic job. He has lived Milkha Singh for the last two years, and if you have seen the teaser, it is amazing. You get goosebumps when you watch it... the movie’s only going to be better,” said Jeev, who was recently in the Capital to announce his association with Volvo Cars. “It is a very proud moment for the family. The team — Prasoon Joshi, Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh — is fantastic. I watch a lot of movies, so I had the knowledge to see that the team is good. I hope that people watch the movie and make up their mind about what they want to do in life,” added the 41-year-old.
When asked if he thinks sports other than cricket get their due in India, he said, “No, I don’t think so. The reason why cricket is a mass sport is because people want to watch it, and it gets good marketing, while other sports don’t.”
“You need a good marketing team and a good sponsor; then it can go to the masses. A good marketing team televises the game, while the sponsors make sure that the marketing team does its job. Also, the players should be helped in the right way,” he added.
