Milkha Singh thrilled to reconnect with people from his past
Writer Prasoon Joshi helped Milkha Singh reconnect with people he had lost touch with
No doubt, former Indian athlete Milkha Singh is thrilled about his biographical film, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (BMB), produced and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. But what made him happier was that the film got him to reconnect with his past. While researching on Singh’s life, writer-lyricist Prasoon Joshi met every important person in his life, thus re-introducing the athlete to the people from his past.
A source says, “Milkha is thankful to Prasoon for re-introducing him to many people whom he had lost touch with over the years, especially due to the Partition. Milkha had reunions with many people who he knew in the past and had lost connection with.”
Joshi went to the neighbourhood where Singh grew up and met his friends, family and people associated with him. He says, “I went to as many places as I could. While writing about his life, it is important to not just listen to him, but also from people who knew him. As the film isn’t about a fictitious character, we had to be extra careful. But I have taken some liberty (with the story).”
He adds, “Milkhaji is an exceptional human being. I am just happy that I got an opportunity to know him. I got a lot of insight on how his life was, on how he experienced many problems and fought against all odds. His life and struggle makes other people’s problems seem small.”
BMB has Farhan Akhtar in the role of Milkha Singh.
