Mithun Chakraborty is on a high. With season three of his reality show, Dance India Dance Season, flagging off, the actor will soon be seen on Zee TV adorning the grandmaster’s hat during the mega audition rounds and will continue to be on the small screen till the show ends.
“I was amazed by the kind of contestants shortlisted so far. There is a boy from a small pocket in Orissa, whom I had interacted with during the auditions for season two. I’d promised him that if he works hard on his craft, I’d ensure he gets the platform he deserves. And this time, he really surprised me with his act. I had to keep my word,” recalls Mithun, who promises he will perform at least once in the course of the dance show’s current season but wouldn’t like to overexpose himself as a dancer.
The actor, who has recently taken over West Bengal’s most popular chat show, Dadagiri, and has completed over five seasons of Dance Bangla Dance, admits he incorporates certain moves, popularised by his favourite artistes, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, in his act.“They were stunners. I’d be lying if I said I never followed them or they didn’t fascinate me. There’s a whole generation that was their fan. I’m one of them and if you find their moves in my dances, it’s natural,” says Mithun, best-known for his disco dance acts in the 1980s.
Reportedly, the 61-year-old, after Golmaal 3’s disco number last year, choreographed by Seema Desai, will be seen performing another disco act in Housefull 2, where he plays Riteish Deshmukh’s father. This time, the song has been choreographed by Farah Khan.
“It’s a special dance number that Farah choreographed. Farah and her brother Sajid Khan love Hindi movies. They are almost like encyclopedias. I think Farah has put together some fun moves in the song, keeping my other popular songs in mind. I can promise you’ll be reminded of my Disco Dancer (1982) days,” says Mithun, adding, “I’ve also been made to do some action scenes but overall, Housefull 2 is a comedy of errors of sorts. It’s hilarious.”
