A pilot by choice, an actor by destiny and a shayar, actor Mukul Dev is all set to rock it with a “mature approach” to his role as Billa (a typical Punjabi farmer) in director Samir Karnik’s film Yamla Pagla Deewana along with the Deol brothers.
Simultaneously, he’s also working on his flying academy. But we managed to catch him in between his “flying schedule”. So what’s next in Bollywood, we ask. “Ram Gopal Verma’s Money Money More Money, which is a South Indian film, an outright comedy script,” says Mukul.
The critics might have written him off, but one opinion, that matters to him is his actor-brother Rahul Dev’s. “Rahul is my greatest critic; I look up to him. At 40, I’m fit, and that’s because of Rahul. If I’m neglecting my health, he’s the one to catch hold of me,” says Mukul, who debuted in Dastak in 1996 along with Sushmita Sen.
How obsessed is he with the ‘six pack abs trend’? “If you can, you should get it. If you can’t, focus on the rest of your anatomy,” he says.
Off late he’s been frequently seen in Delhi and the reason is Soar, his flying academy. “I’m a commercial pilot before I was an actor. Back in 1995, I was young, fresh out of the academy and jobless. But after so many years, I’ve taken up the task of bringing about the first of its kind aeronautical academy here. I’ve got some great friends from the aviation industry with me and yes, as much as I love acting, I shall always be a pilot,” Mukul says, who’s very attached to daughter, Sia, living in Gurgaon. “Let me tell you this, a daughter is a boon to this mankind,” the actor says as he signs off.
