Dreams can come true, and who would know that better than Waluscha De Sousa. She harboured a dream of becoming an actor since her teenage years, and it finally came true when she was cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan in his latest film. Waluscha says, “I was waiting to see myself on the big screen to know if I loved the space I was in. Then when I saw myself on the big screen, while I was dubbing for the film, I told myself that I was doing a good job.”

The actor has three kids from her marriage to former model and fashion choreographer Marc Robinson. Her children were whistling and screaming when they saw their mother on the big screen. “I felt like I had become a superstar for my kids overnight,” adds Waluscha.

Though the film industry tends to prefer younger actresses, Waluscha, who is 31, doesn’t shy away from revealing her age, or that she has three kids, and is a divorcee. She says, “I don’t know what is early and what is late. So long as someone can deliver what you are looking for in a character, the age and marital status shouldn’t matter. If we stop giving so much importance to someone’s age or marital status, I’m sure more girls will come out and be honest about these things.”

The actor also adds that it can be emotionally draining when you live two lives — one for the camera and the fans, and another that is real. “I had to deal with it. I didn’t know if I should be honest, and say I have three kids and I’m a divorcee. I wondered if they would accept me for who I am. But the industry has come a long way. A lot of people tell me that I am taking a risk, but this is who I am. I am good at what I do and I am hard-working, so I would like people to accept me for who I am,” says Waluscha.
