I’m Priyanka’s youngest husband,” laughs Neil Nitin Mukesh, who plays Major Edwin Rodrigues, the first of Sussana Anna Marie Johanne’s seven husbands in Vishal Bhardwaj’s

7 Khoon Maaf

. “She is the good Mrs Rodrigues who because of circumstances ends up killing me brutally, triggering off a murder spree that ends the lives of six more husbands.”

As a part of his homework, Neil read Ruskin Bond’s novel,

Sussana’s Seven Husbands

. He wasn’t recognised when he first walked into the sets in his get-up. “The credit for this goes to the make-up artist,” he asserts. “Reading the book and understanding the character helped a lot. Vishal sir’s (director Vishal Bhardwaj) writing and direction made life easier. I’m lucky to get a chance to work with a director like him so early in my career.”

Out of the seven actors playing her husbands, it’s said that Priyanka refused to get intimate on screen only with Annu Kapoor. Didn’t she have apprehensions about getting too close to Neil for comfort? “If I answer that question, I’ll be revealing too much too soon,” says Neil. “I didn’t know that she had refused to get intimate with Annu

ji

. Still, I think she has played Sussana really well. You can’t take your eyes off her. Of course, the luckiest husband was John (Abraham). He got to do some real sizzling scenes with Priyanka.”

7 Khoon Maaf

is Neil’s first release of the year. It will be followed by Abbas-Mustan’s

Players

, which is the official Indian remake of

The Italian Job

. It will release in September and co-stars Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor.

“Abhishek is like an older brother on the sets. He is so much fun and keeps an eye out for me. Sonam and I are in the same age-group. We hang around a lot together,” beams Neil. “We have a longish schedule of the film coming up in New Zealand. I’ll take off for the picturesque country this week. I can’t wait to meet Abhishek and Sonam again.”
