Director Nikhil Advani’s animated film, Delhi Safari, has helped the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in a big way. Authorities there have decided to use the central character of the movie, Yuvi, a lion cub as their mascot.
Ask Nikhil about this and he says, “It’s a moment of pride for us to have our character immortalised like this. Hopefully, we will help make a difference and spread awareness about conserving wildlife.” Sunil Limaye, chief conservator of forests and director, SGNP, says, “The leopard cubs here share the same problem Yuvi faces in the film. The national park is their home and it’s getting encroached upon. The leopards are getting killed and their lives are under threat. So Yuvi represents them perfectly.”
Authorities at the SGNP intend on putting up large banners inside and along the park’s borders. Sunil says, “Banners with real animals are not very interesting. Since these animated characters are attractive, we have decided to use them in our billboards.” Nikhil adds, “We have created characters that everyone will relate to.”
