Most actors prefer to celebrate their birthday with much pomp and show. But Sonakshi Sinha, who turns 27 today (June 2), would rather spend time with her family or continue going about doing her work — be it shooting or promotions. In this interview, she talks to us about her big day, her fondest memories of it, and her family.
What are your plans for your birthday?
I have always been working on my birthday. Last year, I was shooting, and this year, I’m promoting my film Holiday, so I’m always on the go on my birthdays. I was going to be out of town on the day, but now the tour has been cancelled for some reason, so I’m left with no plans right now.
Do you have any special memories of the day?
Yes, it was during the my second film, Rowdy Rathore (2012), which released just a day before my birthday. My dad gifted me a car that year. Also, last year, when we were shooting for R… Rajkumar (2013) in Wai, the entire crew threw me a surprise bash. It was a crazy experience.
Do you get a cake?
Yeah, it is a birthday tradition, and there is no skipping that.
Usually, who is the first one to wish you?
My parents; they usually call me up a few minutes before midnight, because if they call me any later, my phone is mostly busy. My father is very finicky about being the first one to wish me on the day. So before I speak to him on that day, I don’t take any calls.
What is the best gift your brothers have given you?
(Laughs) I don’t think my brothers and I have ever exchanged birthday gifts. In fact, their birthday comes just three days after mine (on June 5). We believe in spending time together.
