Karan Johar admits his chat show will return next year though he’d earlier called it quits shoots a promo capsule with Kareena Kapoor-Imran Khan for their upcoming romantic comedy.bollywood Updated: Dec 26, 2011 17:38 IST
All those who mourned the news that Koffee With Karan (KWK) had wrapped up for good last year, have a reason to rejoice. The popular chat show with director-producer Karan Johar as host, will return next year.
The 39-year-old anchor, around the time that the show’s third season wrapped, had said that his controversial show wouldn’t return. However, now he asserts being in talks with the broadcasters for the fourth edition of the show."Talks are on. It’s all in its absolute nascent stage. We’ve not figured out the details for the show, but hopefully, we will be back soon with some coffee and delightful conversations next year," beams Karan.
“Once we have formalised everything, we’ll figure the guest list. I’m sure I’ll chat up some of my dearest friends and discover some new people on the show.”
Last time, the show was to have 26 fresh episodes, but ended before completing the number.
Meanwhile, Karan, who is shooting in the city with a bunch of newbies for his next directorial venture, Student of The Year, despite being unwell, has shot a capsule resembling his chat show with Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan to promote their film, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.
“I’d done something similar for Dostana (2008) and We Are Family (2010) as I don’t follow any rule book while promoting films,” he says.
The second promo of Agneepath was unveiled in the city yesterday alongside Don 2 that opened in cinemas.
The film, toplining Hrithik Roshan as Vijay Chauhan and Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena, according to the Ormax Media Research, is among the most looked-forward to films next year.
Wouldn’t he shoot a KWK-style capsule with his hero and villain from remake of the 1990 film too?
“I can’t have a chat show episode with the Agneepath boys,” says Karan.
“I’m glad the film’s promos and songs have received great feedback. But I wouldn’t like to shoot a Koffee-style capsule with Sanju and Hrithik because the film is serious. It’s full of action. I could do it with Kareena and Imran because their film is fun, slice-of-life kind that matches the appeal of the capsules I shoot.”
New guests for Koffee with Karan
Back in the year, Karan Johar had admitted that he wouldn’t like to have a fourth edition of his controversial chat show Koffee With Karan. The third season had flagged off on Star World with an episode featuring Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan.
The following episodes featured Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan, and Deepika Padukone with Sonam Kapoor.
Both episodes (Imraan-Ranbir and Sonam-Deepika) are still talked about because the girls took off on Ranbir and their controversial statements offended too many parties.
The episode featuring the boys was talked about for their make-believe smooch on the couch.
Towards the end of the season, it’s said that a couple of episodes had to be run again because the channel ran out of fresh episodes. The producer-director, apparently was contracted for 26 episodes and he had shot a few less.
The talks for the fourth edition started a couple of months ago. This time, apart from Karan’s favourite guests including Shah Rukh Khan, the channel is likely to invite a couple of celebs who’ve never been part of the show so far.
