Popular VJ and anchor Manish Paul, better known for his comic acts, will now turn into a film actor with Oye Mickey. The film has been written and directed by debutant Saurabh Varma and is a comic thriller set in Delhi about the life of a Punjabi computer geek Mickey, who plans a con. The other cast is still undecided and the shoot will begin in September. Varma says, “After auditioning for six months when I met him, I realised Manish has perfect comic timing and an innocent face required for the character.”

Thrilled to have bagged a film, Manish says, “Every actor looks for a movie role and I met many filmmakers before, but nothing worked out. With Saurabh, things clicked in an instant.” Comedy being his forte, Manish is quick to add that the film won’t be a funny one. “There will be action and drama in the movie as well,” he explains.

Comparisons with anchor-turned-actor, Ayushmann Khurrana are inevitable. “I wouldn’t want to compare my success with anyone else. I believe in hard work and know that shortcuts don’t work. I know how tedious it is doing TV shows, however, even after this film, I wouldn’t leave TV.” Manish is currently hosting Colors’ Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and will later host India’s Got Talent too. “I will juggle schedules and work things out between films and TV. Moreover, I have done all big shows on TV,” he says.
