Actor Zareen Khan, who drew attention last year with her cameo with Salman Khan in the song Character dheela in Ready, plans to stay away from item numbers. Reason: she believes it would slot her as an item girl right at the beginning of her career.

“Two more solo song appearances and I might be tagged as an item dancer which I don’t want,” she rues, adding, “I am consciously ignoring them because I’m just about two films old.Character dheela was with Salman, so I was okay with that.” Salman Khan introduced the Katrina Kaif look-alike in the period drama Veer (2010).

The actor, who has often been criticized for her look and body, feels director Sajid Khan’s Housefull is an acid test to prove her worth as an actor.

“It’s a second chance for me after Veer. The expectations from my debut two years ago were sky high. It was a dream launch for me but the box office collections were pretty disappointing,” says Zareen, who was approached for Race 2. “With Housefull 2, I hope I can change my image and get a career boost.”

Housefull 2 is a comedy of errors that toplines Akshay Kumar, Asin, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Shreyas Talpade, Shazahn Padamsee, Riteish Deshmukh, Mithun Chakraborty, Rishi and Randhir Kapoor and Boman Irani. With more than a dozen actors, didn’t she feel the lack of screen time for herself?

“I don’t think I will get overshadowed because Sajid ensures every character stands out,” says Zareen, who is in talks with a few directors for projects. “I don’t like talking about films that I haven’t taken on yet because I know how badly it can backfire.”

Rumour has it that Zareen is likely to be part of David Dhawan’s sequel to Partner (2007). “The script is not ready as yet. It’s too early to speak about it,” she says. “Salman is too busy, so I don’t think we can start rolling before 2014.”
