She plays the glamorous Ayesha in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Don 2, which hit theatres today. And Lara Dutta accepts “it’s a great feeling”, more so because she is set to become a mother within a few weeks.
“What’s better than closing the year with a nice, big film like Don 2? I have no complaints, it’s been a very good year,” says the actor, who plays the don’s moll in the film directed by Farhan Akhtar.
While Lara’s priority at the moment is her baby, her first child with husband, tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi, she has already chalked out plans on how to kick off her career again post-delivery.
“Yes, plans are already afoot for my production house Bheegi Basanti Entertainment’s next projects. I will act in one film, while another will be produced by me. Ideally, I would like to be back at work by May-June next year,” reveals the actor.
Conceding that she has given herself flexibility as far as returning to the sets is concerned, she says, “If I feel I am ready to start work, then the film I’m starring in will go on the floors by May. Otherwise, I will fall back on the one I am producing,” she says.
Lara accepts she wants to focus on her production house first, saying, “I believe once you get the momentum, considering Chalo Dilli (with Vinay Pathak) did well for us, audiences begin to have expectations about what’s coming next. And I don’t want to have a long gap and lose that momentum. The rest of my films, from outside banners, will only start by August next year.”
The other film in Lara’s kitty is Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai, which has been stuck in the cans for a long time. It is believed to be a take on Hollywood hit, My Cousin Vinny (1992).
