Rajshri Productions, best known for churning out super-hit family dramas such as Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999) is now set to connect with the youth with a detective film.

Kavita Barjatya, (Sooraj Barjatya's sister), who was so far concentrating on producing TV soaps, is now looking to cut into the young market. The banner's first film is titled Samrat and Co and is directed by Kaushik Ghatak, "Kaushikji narrated a couple of subjects and this one was the most exciting.

I have known and worked with him since 2004. He has directed most of my TV shows and they were all landmarks. We hope to recreate the magic on big screen now. It's going to be a challenge to cater to the typical Rajshri family audiences as well as today's youth," says Kavita.

Ghatak, who had directed the family soap Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, says, "The adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Byomkesh have always fascinated me. I wanted to build a detective character in Bollywood cinema, someone who'd appeal to the regular Hindi film watchers. I am thankful to Kavitaji, with whom I have shared a long and wonderful working relationship, for understanding this new kind of cinema and making a start," says Ghatak.

Although the makers are yet to decide on the cast of the film, they intend on roping in fresh faces. The makers plan to start shooting the film before the end of the year.
