Kangana Ranaut’s nine-year-long Bollywood journey has been no less than a roller-coaster ride. After giving a memorable performance in her debut film, Gangster (2006), she took some time to come into her own, before giving hits like Fashion (2008), Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and Queen (2014). Finally, she feels she’s getting her due in B-Town. “I like being who I am,” says the actor, adding, “Now is the time when I’m getting my due.”

The 28-year-old says that she has always wanted to do a biopic, and now that she is playing Rani Laxmi Bai, she is extremely elated. “I get so many offers for these so-called blockbusters, or big hero or big banner films, but I do a film only if the character is exciting enough. It’s amazing to see the number, and the kinds of people who wish to work with me. It feels great,” she says.

On the other hand, Kangana is currently toiling for her role in film-maker Vishal Bhardwaj’s next. “I’m working from 5am to 10pm. I sometimes don’t even remember where I am. There are so many classes going on. It’s a character that’s demanding enough for me to have sleepless nights over it. She’s a woman from an era that I’ve not lived in. It’s challenging for me, but I’m trying my best,” she says.

The actor also admits that working with Vishal was on her wish list. She explains, saying, “There are very few people I aspire to work with. He’s one of them.”
