His personal life might be far from starry but actor Om Puri is surely having one of the best times of his life, professionally. The 64-year-old actor is currently shooting in France for the Steven Speilberg and Oprah Winfrey production, The Hundred Foot Journey with Oscar-winning British star Helen Mirren.
The film weaves around the Kadam family, led by Papa (Puri), which moves to France and opens a restaurant, 100 feet across the street from a Michelin-starred French restaurant, run by the ambitious Madame Mallory (Mirren). Puri falls for Mallory and a romantic relationship develops. However, there seem to be no intimate scenes between Puri and Mirren as their on-screen relationship is more spiritual than physical.
Puri, who has worked in Hollywood before, is excited about working in the Reliance DreamWorks project. “I am very happy to work with Helen Mirren, and the director (Lasse Hallstrom) is also very experienced. He has done 35 films. I will shoot for nine weeks,” he said in a recent interview.
