OUATIMD doesn't recover even half its cost over weekend

Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara could have been a great opportunity for the comedy-drama actor to take up a serious role of an underworld don. But trade reports suggest that the character, in fact, has failed to connect with the audience and that is probably a major reason for the film not doing well.

“The film’s Thursday collection was very good — nearly 90 per cent despite not having many shows. From Friday onwards, the shows increased, but the collection did not. Overall, it has failed to cross R40 crore in four days, which is very bad,” says trade analyst Amod Mehra. He further adds, “The film’s budget was R95 crore, and since it isn’t doing well, it is going to be difficult for the makers to recover the money in its two weeks run.”

Mehra further notes that the film’s promotions weren’t strong. “From day one, the projection of the entire film went haywire. They tried to improvise, but nothing happened. The story was fictitious as the Imran Khan angle to the love story never existed in real life. Once the audience feels disconnected, it becomes difficult for a film to do well,” says Mehra.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also confirms that the box office figures are disappointing and that it’s certain that the film has failed. “The film couldn’t do well at the box office,” he says.
