Almost 900 days and 129 Fridays since her last release, Parineeti Chopra is gearing up for her return with Meri Pyaari Bindu opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. The last time she played a lead role was in 2014 in Kill Dil with Ranveer Singh.
It is not normal for a heroine at 26 to take a break from the most unforgiving industry in the country. But, when has Parineeti ever been normal? She is a banker-turned-actor who has had immense success portraying diverse characters.
So now, as we prepare for a slimmer, singing Parineeti to make her return to the big screen, the question we ask is: Are we ready for her?
There have been many actors who have added playback singing to their repertoire recently—Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha.
However, her sabbatical, which came after two successive flops, makes her return more special. Most heroines would not “take leave” when at the peak of their careers, but Parineeti risked falling behind in the race to rule the box office.
In between, she has lost weight and become fitter, apparently due to societal pressure. It’s scary to think that someone would put their career on the line due to societal pressures.
This seems to be the case even with celebrities who are under constant glare of the media and the public. Bhumi Pednekar, of Dum Laga Ke Haisha fame, has also done something similar and will be seen in a movie later this year. She had, in fact, gained 12 kgs for her debut.
However, it’s commendable that Parineeti had the courage to do what she thought best for her and not fall into the trap of competition and harming herself.
As a slimmer Parineeti waits for May 12 to see the place she holds in the audience hearts, fans are already welcoming her back.
