Director Madhur Bhandarkar, who has won three National Awards, has added yet another feather to his cap. Bhandarkar will be conferred the PL Deshpande Award aka the Zenith Asia Award for significantly shaping the film making culture through his work. The director of films such as Page 3 and Fashion has also been called the film-maker of the first decade of 21st century by the organisers.
The award ceremony will take place on November 16 at the National Film Archive Theatre during the 8th Pulotsav — An Art Festival in Pune. Says the film-maker, “I am honoured to be receiving such a big award. I admired PL Deshpande ji and to receive an honour that is in his name is something I will cherish forever.” Bhandarkar’s film, Chandni Bar, will also be screened at the fest.
PL Deshpande was a renowned writer, stage and film actor and his literary works are still revered all over the world.
