She is still a teenager, but Alia Bhatt has made up her mind about her career. Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter, who is making her debut with Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year (SOTY), says she would rather focus on learning “acting and filmmaking” instead of studying for a degree.
“Actually, it was always decided that I would finish my 12th and go on to study drama. But SOTY happened. So at the moment, it looks like I’m not going to study further. I will work if I get some good offers,” says the youngster. Alia debuts with other newcomers Varun Dhawan (David Dhawan’s son) and model-actor Sidharth Malhotra, who all play high school students in the film.
“If I get the time, I would love to do an acting course. (Regular) studies aren’t for me. I’m always reading and learning anyway,” says Alia. “I can’t study physics and chemistry. These subjects are not my cup of tea.”
Is her father happy with her decision to drop out? “When I got SOTY, I was about to get into further studies. But he said to me, ‘Leave it, why do you need it? You aren’t going to become a professor, you are becoming an actor and you already know what to do.’ That’s how my family is. They have never pushed me to study,” she says. “My father was a terrible student in college, but now he goes to colleges to give lectures. It’s all about how well read you are.”
