Hours before the film releases and a day before the reviews appear, here’s what you can expect from this week’s release.
Cast: Emraan Hashmi (last seen in Ek Thi Daayan), Vidya Balan (last seen in Kahaani; 2012), Rajesh Sharma (last seen in Special 26) and Namit Das (last seen in Lafangey Parindey; 2010)
Storyline: Master vault cracker Sanju (Emraan) and his two partner-buddies plan one last massive heist. Sanju is made in-charge of keeping the cash till it’s safe to split. By the time his partners return to claim their share, Sanju has had a severe bout of, what they suspect, is convenient amnesia. Suspecting a scam, they decide to stay back with him and his crazy Punjabi wife.
Director: Rajkumar Gupta (Last directed No One Killed Jessica; 2011) Starring Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji, the film did well and was based on the real-life case of the murder of the model, Jessica Lal.
Music: Amit Trivedi
The tracks have been praised for their crazy lyrics. The title song, ‘Ghanchakkar babu’ has earned a top spot. The makers also promoted Altaf Raja’s comeback with a song titled ‘Jholu Ram’, unfortunately it has helped neither the album nor his career.
Controversies/stunts: A writer from Nepal recently claimed that the film’s plot has been lifted from a story that belongs to him. As per a report, he’s now taken the matter to court, seeking a stay on the film’s release.
Marketing/hype: The makers organised a real-life treasure hunt, at the end of which, the winner was supposed to take home cash worth R1 lakh. But the winner never made headlines, so it’s hard to say whether it actually took place. Emraan Hashmi and Altaf Raja also claimed to perform at some concerts across the country.
After comedies like Yamla Pagla Deewana and Bol Bachchan (2012), even the promo of this one provides relief. That’s also probably why Emraan’s so over-confident. He reportedly said: “I am very sure that this will be my biggest success (sic).”
