She has been part of several Tamil and Telugu hit films like Vaamanan (2009), Leader (2010) and Nootrenbadhu (2011), but Priya Anand was noticed in Bollywood after her role as Sridevi's niece in English Vinglish (2012). This recognition got her more offers for Hindi films, the most interesting one being the Farhan Akhtar-Ritesh Sidhwani produced Fukrey.
"The interesting part is that Priya was finalised for the film even before English Vinglish released. Actually, she had impressed the casting director Honey Trehan and the makers with her auditions," says an insider from the film, adding, "Despite having no connections with Delhi, she brought in the nuances of a north Indian girl perfectly in her auditions."
When contacted, Ritesh confirms, "Yes, Priya has already started shooting for our film. Although she isn't a Delhi girl, the way she has caught the sur (pulse) of an upper middle class Delhi girl is simply amazing. She is perfect for the role in the film."
Fukrey is being directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba of Teen Thay Bhai (2011) fame and also stars Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadda. The film is being shot in what Ritesh describes as "non-metro Delhi" in places in and around east Delhi aka trans-Yamuna areas.
Priya, who is still acting in south Indian films, will also be seen in Rangrezz, which stars Jackky Bhagnani and is directed by Priyadarshan.
