Films featuring star cousins Priyanka and Parineeti Chopra are set to release on the same day next month. Their respective films, Zanjeer and Shuddh Desi Romance (SDR), will clash at the box office on September 6. And although much has already been written about this, Priyanka isn’t amused.

“Parineeti is my family. And I think it’s cheap when people try and use that to create some sort of interesting controversy so that they can write more about it,” said Priyanka at an event on Wednesday (August 21) while promoting her Hollywood animation film, Planes. “She is my sister and the way I see it, it’s a Chopra weekend. So go and enjoy the movies.”

Not many know that the Chopra sisters’ films were slated to clash on another date earlier. Initially, SDR was scheduled to release on September 13. And Zanjeer was also set for a date with ticket windows at that time.

But Priyanka intervened and convinced the makers of her film to release it a week earlier. In a coincidental twist of fate, SDR also preponed its date by a week after the film was selected for the Toronto Film Festival.

Interestingly, even as the two films clash at the box office, more Chopra cousins wait in the wings to enter Bollywood. Meera will make her debut in Satish Kaushik’s Gang of Ghosts while Barbie Handa will also be seen in a Hindi film soon.

Other big clashes at the box office this year

* On November 29, Saif Ali Khan’s Bullett Raja clashes with Shahid Kapoor’s Rambo Rajkumar. The clash
is making news because Shahid was in a relationship with Kareena Kapoor, who is now married

* Subhash Ghai’s next, Kaanchi, releases on the same date as the Farhan Akhtar-Vidya Balan-starrer Shaadi Ke Side Effects. They are
supposed to release on December 6.
