Priyanka Chopra's Mary Kom to clash with Katrina's Bang Bang

Katrina looks like a doll in this one.

The long weekend starting October 2 was already a packed one. And now, the Gandhi Jayanti period just got even more crowded. The Priyanka Chopra-starrer Mary Kom biopic has also been slotted to hit theatres on the same day that Katrina Kaif’s two films — Bang Bang with Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan’s Phantom — are already scheduled to release.

"All three movies will release on the same date, and all of them are big films. Now, who moves out of the race is a big question because, even if they want to (release on the same date), it won’t be possible to get enough screens for such big-ticket films. Let’s wait and watch," says a trade insider. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is producing the official biopic of the champion Indian boxer, who also won a bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012.

We tried to reach Bhansali, as well as director Omung Kumar (who said that he was busy in a shot) but they couldn’t be reached for comment. However, experts are surprised at such a move.

"Have we forgotten what happened when Jab Tak Hai Jaan clashed with Son of Sardaar (during Diwali 2012)? Your audiences, theatres and people’s attention get divided. Plus, it creates unnecessary bitterness between two films’ makers,” says trade expert Taran Adarsh, who was the first to tweet about the release date of Priyanka's film.

Other clashes

Saif Ali Khan’s next with Prabhudheva is likely to clash with the Akshay Kumar-starrer Gabbar on January 23 next year.
The makers of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees are eyeing next year’s Eid weekend, which is also when Kabir Khan’s next with Salman Khan is set to release.
Next year’s Christmas will see the Karan Johar-produced Shuddhi clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani.
