Priyanka, Katrina, Jacqueline, or Anushka? Who can lead the Bollywood remake of Kill Bill?

Filmmakers and action directors tell us who they think can play Uma Thurman’s role best in the Bollywood remake of Kill Bill.

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) is one of the biggest cult films to have come out of Hollywood, and The Bride, an avenging warrior with an unbeatable sword, is one of the most iconic characters in film history. Now that Bollywood actor-producer Nikhil Dwivedi has reportedly acquired the rights to remake Kill Bill (a fact that has since been denied by Tarantino’s legal team; see edit note at the end) , the question is that if the film were to be ever remade in Bollywood, which female actor could truly do justice to that yellow suit, the Samurai sword, and the steely glare perfected by Uma Thurman?

We spoke to Bollywood filmmakers and action directors about which actor(s) they think would suit the part. Read on to find out their choices:

Remo D’Souza, choreographer and director of Anybody Can Dance (2013), ABCD2 (2015), and Race 3 (2018): “I think Priyanka Chopra will be right for the part. She is fit and has the right attitude. Katrina Kaif would also be able to pull off the character, I think. It’s such a wonderful film and the transformation of The Bride, played by Uma Thurman, is amazing.”

Sham Kaushal, action director, known for his work in films such as Black Friday (2004), Slumdog Millionaire (2008), Kaminey (2009), Krrish 3 (2013), and PK (2014): “Actors these days are quite focused on their fitness and leave no stone unturned to get into the skin of the character. So I think, anyone who has the agility and mental strength can portray Uma Thurman’s role in the Bollywood remake. The female actors and even Aamir Khan learned kushti (wrestling) to play their parts in Dangal (2016). Tom Cruise also learned how to fly a helicopter for the latest film, Mission: Impossible – Fallout. So, I think anyone who’s ready to undergo proper training for such a part would be able to play the role well.”

Allan Amin, action director, who has worked on the stunts for Dishoom (2016), Mirzya (2016), Force 2 (2016), Sarkar 3 (2017), and Ittefaq (2017): “I think, Jacqueline Fernandez would be the best to play Uma Thurman’s role in the Bollywood remake. I had worked with her in an ad film and made her climb walls. She’s very flexible and active. She can do heavy-duty action with a lot of ease. She does the full split so comfortably, and that’s not everyone’s piece of cake.”

Abhinay Deo, filmmaker, director of Game (2011), Force 2 (2016), and the Indian version of the Hollywood TV series, 24: “It’s big boots to fill in, trying to cast for Uma Thurman’s role from Kill Bill in the Hindi version of the cult film. The film needs [a heroine] with great acting chops, a bit of age and experience, a cold vibe of unpredictability, and a million-dollar physique to make all the action sequences look both believable and enjoyable. The three names that come to mind immediately are: Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut.”

Note : The original version of the story published on August 19,2018 stated that producer Nikhil Dwivedi has acquired the rights to remake Kill Bill in Bollywood. However, as clarified by the legal representatives of Quentin Tarantino, this is not true. The story has since been revised.
