The rehearsal began with her taking directions from some of Shiamak Davar’s trusted dancers. An hour later, at about 10 pm, Priyanka Chopra ended up taking charge of everything on the stage. She moved heavy props around, took calls on where everything and everyone, including Shah Rukh Khan, should be placed, and even tweaked a few dance steps.
While practicing for the nominations performance of the Zee Cine Awards in Macau, Hong Kong, till 6 am, Chopra, along with co-host Khan, looked like she was out to prove to those present backstage that acting isn’t her only prowess.
“We’ve changed this step by the way Shah Rukh,” said Chopra to the actor, who had probably returned to the undone stage from a smoke break.
The performance, which was to introduce Salman Khan’s Bodyguard (2011) nomination, saw Chopra strutting around in aviators, with her arms flared resembling Lovely Singh’s muscular avatar from the Siddique-directed film. Shah Rukh, meanwhile, was on a ‘digging’ spree as he kept muttering lines in an unusual, yet deliberately recognisable, accent. But in their defence, the duo's script included jokes on all the major films nominated — Rockstar, The Dirty Picture and so on.
Occasionally consulting with Davar, who sat on the side, PC decided that, the cut-outs of Munni, Sheila and Vidya Balan should enter before Shah Rukh in a certain sequence. “That would make for a nicer entry,” announced the actor.
Incidentally, Chopra, along with the rest of the film fraternity enjoyed anonymity over the weekend as they walked around The Venetian Hotel and made occasional rounds to the casino.
However, on Saturday, the evening on which the event concluded, loads of Indians made their way into the hotel property and hovered around the venue hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars.
Evening of digs and tributes
After IIFA, Shah Rukh Khan practised to get the moves right for Bodyguard's introduction. His comic performance during the rehearsal and the script included several jokes about 'the shirt coming off in the climax.
Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor seemed to be having a good time jumping around the stage. He was rehearsing for a tribute to late actors Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand. Farhan Akhtar too was scheduled take to the stage, as was Chikni Chameli star Katrina Kaif.
