She made her acting debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Asoka (2001). But that was possibly the only big-ticket film Hrishitaa Bhatt starred in. Now, the actor will make her debut as a producer in her forthcoming film Shakal Pe Mat Jaa.
“It was always at the back on my mind. While acting, I got acquainted with production and the direction side of films since I had very little knowledge of how movies get made. So, whichever film I would work in, I would observe how things are done,” says Bhatt.
Although the actor is producing the film, she isn’t acting in it. “There wasn’t any role for me. I would have loved to do an item number, but there wasn’t any space for that too,” says Bhatt, adding that after acting, getting into production only seems like the logical step. “It comes next,” says the new producer, whose firm is called IPIX Movies.
The Shararat (2003) actor already had a script with her for this film, but her friend came up with another story. “I found it really hilarious with real-life inspiration. Since I enjoy comedies as an actor too, I decided to take it up,” she says.
Ask Hrishitaa why she isn’t acting in many movies and she says: “I have finished a few and while I was working on these films, I got involved with this production. This involves a lot of work and I was too busy.”
However, Hrishitaa, who in the past has acted in films like Ab Tak Chhappan (2004) and Haasil (2003), refutes the idea of getting into direction. “Not for another 10 to 12 years, I guess,” she laughs. “Right now, I am more than happy being an actor.”
