From Kahaani to Queen and Mary Kom, films with women at the centrestage have been a hit theme in Bollywood in the recent past. Actor Priyanka Chopra, who portrayed the role of boxing champ Mary Kom in a biopic last year, is happy that her performance is still talked about, seven months after the film's release.

The film was also recently chosen for the coveted National Awards as the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment. PeeCee says that this restores her faith in the genre.

"The huge success of Mary Kom makes me believe that people want to embrace good, hopeful episodes of life," says the 32-year-old actor, who's currently shooting for an American TV show, where she plays an FBI agent.

Interestingly, among all these films centered around women power, last year and this, Mary Kom has had the best opening day collection, too. While Gulab Gang, Dedh Ishqiya and Queen opened at Rs 2.18cr, Rs 2.86cr and Rs 1.75cr, respectively, Highway and Mardaani stood at Rs 3.75 crore and Rs 3.46cr. Anushka Sharma's recently-released opened at Rs 3.35cr. Mary Kom, meanwhile, had an opening day collection of Rs 8.42cr and even the highest weekend collection (Rs 28.32cr), among these films, which makes Priyanka gush with pride.

"The financial success of the film, gives me a sense of relief that one can do this on one's own terms," says Priyanka.
