Pyaar Ka Punchnama turns six: Divyendu recalls taking Bacardi shots between scenes
The shooting for Luv Ranjan’s Pyaar Ka Punchnama took place in Gurgaon in winters, and actor Divyendu Sharma recalls how he and his co-stars would often have Bacardi shots to keep themselves warm.
Filmmaker Luv Ranjan’s Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) managed to captivate the audience despite having new faces. As the film completes six years of its release today, actor Divyendu Sharma, who is popularly known by his screen name, Liquid, in the film, shares that he was convinced from the word go that the film would be liked by the audience.
“Honestly, I had this hunch that the film would do well. However, I was also aware that it’s a small film and would not make big numbers during the opening weekend. It didn’t have a big opening, but it picked up. I knew that this would happen, as it was an entertaining film,” says Divyendu. The romantic comedy also featured newcomers Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha, Ishita Raj Sharma, Sonnalli Seygall and Raayo S Bakhirta.
Recalling the days when they were shooting for the film, Divyendu says it was so much fun that their long working hours used to just fly by without them realising it. “I remember the shoot would go on for hours, but we never felt tired. We all had connected with each other so well during workshops that we shared a great camaraderie on the sets too,” he recounts.
But the shoot had its challenges too. “All the scenes in the dhaba were shot at three in the morning in Gurgaon in the month of December. It was so cold and we were supposed to be shooting summer scenes. I remember we would have Bacardi shots between the scenes to warm ourselves. In fact, there is a sad song, Baanwre, in the film, where it’s raining. That too, was shot in the night in Gurgaon. The minute the shot would finish, people would rush towards me with blankets,” adds Divyendu.
