Kangana Ranaut-starrer Queen emerged as the winner this weekend at the Bollywood ticket windows. Considering that the film had competition from a Madhuri Dixit-starrer (Gulaab Gang), it is a huge win.
Vikas Bahl's directorial venture made an opening collection of Rs 1.75 crore. The collections took a huge jump on Saturday to Rs 3.50 crore, further picking up on Sunday at Rs 4.75 cr. Queen has grossed a total of Rs 10 crore over the weekend, which given its heroine-centric story is appreciable.
In comparison, Soumik Sen's Gulaab Gang collected Rs 2.41 crore on the opening day but the collections did not pick up as swiftly as Queen's did. The Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla-starrer earned Rs 2.97 crore on day two and Rs 3.46 crore on Sunday, making a total of Rs 8.84 crore.
Talking about Kangana's Queen at the HT Mumbai Most Stylish Awards Deepika Padukone said, "I have seen Queen and I am jealous of her performance, I think she was outstanding."
"What a beautiful film. I think if you are a woman and have been in a relationship, just the way he has captured the emotion of the girl and the way he has portrayed it, it's one of the best films I have seen in the longest time and its outstanding," Deepika added.
Queen also stars Rajkummar Rao and tells the story of a girl who goes for her honeymoon alone and captures the journey of self-discovery of the protagonist essayed by Kangana.
Gulaab Gang, on the other hand, is the saga of good Vs evil with an all-women-cast. Juhi Chawla plays the antagonist in this Bollywood potboiler.
