Raees teaser: Edgy Shah Rukh Khan of Darr, Baazigar is back

In a drastic change of image, Bollywood's king of romance Shah Rukh Khan plays a bootlegger-turned-don-turned-politician who is not afraid of getting his hands dirty. SRK tweeted the teaser of the film that also stars Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Shah Rukh Khan is the quintessential Rahul or, if you push it, Raj -- the eternal lover boy who seduces the woman with his eyes. His signature pose has launched more films than we care to count.

And then the Raees teaser lands up which reminds you of Shah Rukh of his Baazigar and Darr days, the actor who was not scared to take risks with his image and first tasted success as an anti-hero. In this forthcoming film, SRK is back to being edgy and ruthless, a man who will stop at nothing till he gets his heart's desire. In this case, it is not a woman he is obsessed with but success at any cost.

Sporting kajal in his eyes and a taabiz, he plays Miyanbhai - a Gujarat-based bootlegger whose voiceover is punctuated with clink of empty liquor bottles. A far cry from his essentially urbane image, he sports pathani kurtas as he gets about doing an image makeover.

He transforms from a bootlegger to a don to a neta and finally emerges as a godfather figure in the teaser. Don't miss those '70s-style glasses or the intriguing tagline: 'Baniye ka dimaag aur Miyanbhai ki daring'.

Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the film also co-stars Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and will tentatively hit screens in Eid 2016. The film will go head-to-head with Salman Khan's Sultan. The two foes-turned-friends have been at pains to say that the clash doesn't mean that they are rivals.

Earlier in the day, SRK tweeted a poster of the film with this interesting line: 'The man in black travels with your soul in his pocket" Stephen King. V hav both White & Black in us, choose wisely.'

We just have one thing to say to Shah Rukh who teased us with the posters and teaser while on a day off in Bulgaria where he is shooting for Rohit Shetty's Dilwale: We simply cannot wait to see more of your daring!
