In order to give his team a creative break, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani came up with an innovative idea recently. He asked everyone in his office to make a short film.

“He wanted them to have an interesting, fun break that was creative and involved learning at the same time. So he organised a mini competition in his office, where everyone — from the receptionist and office boy to accountants and assistants — took part. He asked each of them to make a short film on a subject of their choice,” says a source close to the filmmaker.

Hirani even gave every participant Rs 7,000 from his own pocket to spend on making the film. “He gave them a rough budget as well as equipment. They were given 10 days’ time and were asked to consider this activity as a competition,” adds the source. The entire team put effort into researching and shooting their films, and learned a lot in the process.

The source says, “The most surprising and encouraging part was that the short film made by the office peon was loved the most by Raju. He gave his personal feedback to each of them and was very happy to see such interesting stories come from each of his staff members. The team, too, was very happy with the exercise.”

When contacted, the filmmaker confirms the news, saying, “I was surprised on seeing the kind of films that were made by my team. The intention was to give them all a break from their usual work and this seemed like a fun idea. I was happy to see each of them so involved and come up with fantastic products.”
