The cast and crew including Ash and Rajnikanth changed six flights and were airborne for about 48 hours while travelling to their first location, Machu Picchu, one of wonders of the world. Says director Shankar, "Even after landing at the airport we first travelled by train, then by bus and then there was a fifteen minute walk to the hotel."
In a desert
Shankar says the location where the song Neutron electron… was shot was like an oasis with several lakes in the middle of a desert in Brazil. "To reach this place from our hotel, we had to travel by boat for two-and-a-half hours, then take a one-and-a-half hour jeep ride in the desert with steep slopes. It wasn’t exactly a joy ride but we had fun. One can’t shoot directly even after reaching there. We all had to walk for about 35 minutes from there to reach the location." The cast and crew did this whole travel routine everyday for a week.
Did the stars complain? "Rajni joked that I had got him to the end of the world, but otherwise both he and Ash are professionals and did not throw a single tantrum," says Shankar.
"We had to keep Ash ready with base make up by 7 am. Ash was very happy to be seeing those wonderful places and never complained in spite of the strenuous travel she had to do during her stay every day," says her make up artist Ojas Rajani.
“Even at the second location in Machu Picchu, vehicles are not allowed inside the monument, so both the actors had to walk for half-an-hour every day to get to the top of the mountain for a whole week. You have to come down for lunch each time or to even go to the loo as there are no arrangements on the top,” informs Rajani.
