Rumoured couple Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor will not talk of their romance in public but repeated public appearances seem to tell another story. The duo was spotted at...
Film or no film, Katrina Kaif gets talked about. When she’s not talking, someone else is talking about her.
Case in point, Kareena Kapoor Khan on Karan Johar’s chat show, and earlier, Deepika Padukone, when she reacted to the infamous Ibiza pictures (with Ranbir Kapoor) saying, "If I’m a public figure and if someone has captured me, then I feel I should have been a little careful."
Does the constant public interest in your life get overwhelming? I’m a private person, and I have a certain way in which I protect myself. I don’t openly wear my feelings. But I take all this in good humour. From the beginning, with any media hype or speculation, I’ve never taken any offence. It’s part and parcel of the industry.
Has the scrutiny increased since the Ibiza paparazzi images surfaced? In the eight years that I’ve been in the industry, I’ve never seen this happen to me, or to anyone else. Now that the precedent is there, the reach of the media is everywhere, so if it happens again, it won’t be given so much importance. I was a little surprised…but it doesn’t matter anymore.
Will you be more careful now when you travel abroad? There is obviously going to be a part of me that — after being aware that there is this kind of surveillance — will be more reserved, but it won’t stop me from living my life the way I want to.
Did you agree with what Deepika Padukone had to say about the leaked images? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, it’s (India) a free country, and there is freedom of speech.
Everyone believes Kareena spilled the beans on your present relationship. She’s a nice person, and has always been sweet and kind to me, and I respect her as an actor. But there was no truth to what she said; she was obviously joking. There’s no marriage happening, no one has even asked me.
So, there have been no marriage proposals from Ranbir Kapoor? No marriage proposals.
What is your equation with Ranbir? If you want me to speak about something other than what is already out there, then that’s personal.
You had said that you don’t know if marriage will happen in 10 or 20 years. No, I said I don’t know whether I’ll get married in the next five, 10 or 20 years, or ever. How can we talk about tomorrow right now…?
Do you feel the focus on you and Ranbir has taken away the limelight from your next film, Dhoom:3? Dhoom:3 is too big for anything to take focus away from it. This is just part of what happens at the time of promotions. You do press conferences, and after an hour-and-a-half, what will they ask you? In an ideal world, people would just talk about the film, but what can you do? You take it with a pinch of salt and a smile.
How was working with Aamir different from working with Salman Khan or Shah Rukh? He’s not as talkative on sets, but now that the filming is over, I understand him better and enjoy his company. During filming, it’s different because he’s so focused and single- minded; he works like a machine, and is focused on creating what he’s trying to create… Look at his movies and his reputation.
