The first time they teamed up together, actor Ranbir Kapoor and filmmaker Prakash Jha made the runaway hit, Raajneeti (2010). And ever since, there has been buzz surrounding the film’s sequel. But now, we have learnt that the second instalment of the political thriller will not hit screens any time soon.

“I am going to make Raajneeti 2 next year,” says Jha, when asked about the sequel.

Reportedly, this is because Ranbir’s schedule is packed this year, and he is shooting for a number of films simultaneously.

“Ranbir is shooting for Anurag Kashyap’s and Anurag Basu’s films as of now. As soon as he finishes them, he will start work on Imtiaz Ali’s next, followed by Ayan Mukerji’s film in the second half of the year. He hardly has any dates to accommodate other films in 2014,” says a source close to the actor. In the original film, Ranbir played a young scion of a powerful family who gets involved in politics after his father’s untimely death.

Jha will also be occupied with the upcoming general elections as he is contesting from the West Champaran constituency of Bihar. However, the director will keep himself busy during this period with another film in the latter half of the year.

When asked about it, Jha refrains from divulging too many details, only saying, “This year, I am doing a film on society’s relationship with the cops (sic). We are in very early stages, so I can’t say much about the project but I am scheduled to shoot in October.”
