Bollywood presence in Kashmir is a barometer of the state’s socio-political conditions. So, when a Shah Rukh Khan or Ranbir Kapoor or Deepika Padukone shoots in the Valley, it creates a buzz.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah helped the cause on Friday by tweeting “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani being filmed in Kashmir at the moment. Gulmarg and Pahalgam were the locations finalised”.

Buoyed by Bollywood’s promise to keep its date with, now peaceful, Kashmir, the CM joined the cast for dinner too.

“It was very nice to meet Ranbir and Deepika over the weekend as they filmed in Kashmir,” wrote Omar to his 2.2 lakh followers on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Omar, whose father and former CM Farooq Abdullah is known for his warm relations with Bollywood stars, is also a movie buff.

The stars have been shooting a song for more than a week in snow-clad Gulmarg and Pahalgam for director Ayan Mukerji’s romantic flick.

Sources said Deepika threw a grand party for the entire crew where typical wazwan — a traditional multi-course Kashmiri meal — was served.

The CM also took upon himself to update his followers on the movie’s release. “Now waiting for the movie due on 31/5 (this year).”

“This is a throwback to the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s when Bollywood would literally camp in the Valley,” said state tourism minister AM Mir.

Since the 2010 unrest, late filmmaker Yash Chopra and actor Shah Rukh Khan filmed their 2012 release Jab Tak Hai Jaan, in the Valley.
