Rani Mukerji, who was last seen in the critically acclaimed No One Killed Jessica (2011), is now al set for yet another woman-centric film, Ayya. The film is being jointly produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. But what’s interesting is that Rani herself is closely involved with all decisions on the marketing strategies of the film, to ensure that it reaches the right kind of audience. A source reveals, “She took a romantic interest in the film and has kept herself involved with every minute development,” says the source.
Rudrarup Datta, head of marketing and operation, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, says, “Rani is a very passionate actor and Ayya is a film that’s very close to her heart. So when we were discussing the marketing plan for the trailer, event activities and public relations, she was extremely interested and was present for all the meetings. Her inputs have been very valuable, and will help us make a bigger impact.” Prod him for further details, and he says, “Rani reminded us of the finer nuances which we may have missed, and we included those in our communication.”
Marathi director Sachin Kundalkar, who will make his directorial debut in Bollywood with Ayya, admits that Rani was equally particular during the shooting of the film as well: “She is a perfectionist and takes a lot of interest in the finer details of her character. She is a great actor to work with, but she is very demanding and insists on full concentration from each and every one,” he says.
