For about 25 years now, the Khans — Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir — along with the likes of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, have ruled the box office. Make way for the young actors who are being branded as the superstars of tomorrow; trade experts pick five of their favourites.

For about 25 years now, the Khans — Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir — along with the likes of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, have ruled the box office. While their supremacy is still untouched, today, the surge of the younger actors is making sure that they at least face the heat of competition. While some have impressed with their performances, there are a few who have outdone the others, and are being considered among the top five bankable heroes of today.

Varun Dhawan’s latest release, ABCD 2, is his fifth hit in a row. Similarly, Sidharth Malhotra, too, has an interesting line-up of films. In his five-year-long career, Ranveer Singh has also proved his mettle as an actor. On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, have maintained their star appeal over the years.

“Varun has a huge fan following, and has proven his versatility with his choice of roles. Similarly, Shahid does few films, but he stands out in each of them,” says trade analyst Komal Nahta.

Similarly, Amod Mehra believes that despite his recent flops, one cannot write off Ranbir’s stardom. “He gets into the skin of the character, and dabbles in different genres with ease. He is a star, and even though his recent films failed to work, we can’t overlook his stardom.” He says.

Detailing what makes Sidharth part of this privileged list, trade analyst Atul Mohan feels that it’s the young actor’s selection of films and his good looks that works in his favour. “Unlike his contemporaries, he hasn’t taken up too many projects, but he has selected the ones with big banners. That has worked well for him,” he says.

As for Ranveer, Komal adds that the success of his films speaks for itself. “He offers variety to his fans, and his films are a proof of that,” says Komal. In a similar vein, Amod explains that a star is one who not just takes up good scripts, but also makes the projects commercially viable. “All these actors have the capacity to draw an audience. Be it their looks, acting skills or a loyal fan base, they ensure returns on investment,” he says.
