Remember Al Pacino’s famous open-necked shirts and crisp suits in Scarface (1983)? Looks like the Hollywood legend’s fashion quotient will soon make its way into Bollywood with the Akshay Kumar-starrer Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2.
Since Akshay plays a don (apparently modelled on Dawood Ibrahim) in Milan Luthria’s sequel to the 2010 hit, his wardrobe is inspired by both Pacino and Amitabh Bachchan’s Don avatar.
“Akshay has come up with some ideas and I have always given my actors the freedom to add their inputs. So when the choice came up between polo neck T-shirts and open-necked shirts, he was in favour of the latter,” says Milan.
Although Akshay’s look from the film was revealed at a recent award function, The Dirty Picture (2011) director says that some changes have been made. “We will start look tests once Akshay is free from his other commitments. His look will be close to Pacino’s (in Scarface). We are also using Mr Bachchan’s wardrobe from the ’70s and ’80s as inspiration. We will present him in a never-before-seen avatar, which is very old world, yet classy,” says Milan, adding that they will begin shooting around August-September.
While Akshay plays Dawood on the big screen, Sonakshi is believed to be portraying yesteryear starlet Mandakini, who was believed to be in a relationship with the gangster.
Sonali Bendre will also make her Bollywood comeback with the Ekta Kapoor production. Apparently, she opted out of the fourth edition of the show, India’s Got Talent, to keep her schedule free.
“The looks are important because we are dealing with a bygone era,” adds Milan.
