There’s been plenty of buzz about Chitrangda Singh’s glamorous metamorphosis in Rohit Dhawan’s directorial debut, Desi Boyz but surprisingly, she’s conspicuously absent in the film’s initial promotions. The first poster featured Akshay Kumar and John Abraham. The second sees Deepika Padukone entering the picture, but Chitrangda’s still missing, fuelling speculation of a fall-out with her director.

“Given the title, the boys had to appear first. Deepika is introduced next in the film, while I come much later. So she makes an early appearance too,” explains the actor, pointing out that the film is her first massy entertainer and marks her debut in commercial cinema. “The look is everything and we’ve worked really hard on it. Rohit wants to keep it under wraps for now before surprising the audience with a Chitrangda they’ve never seen before. He’s working to a definite plan.”

The film is set in London in 2009. Life’s bliss for investment banker Nick, his fiancée, Radhika and his sponger buddy, Jerry. Then, recession strikes and Nick is fired. And Jerry gets word from the Social Services that his nephew will go to a foster home unless he gets a steady job. It’s time for a drastic plan of action that can turn their lives topsy-turvy.

“Akshay and my track brings an interesting twist to the narrative. My character is sensuous and moody, like me,” laughs Chitrangda, adding, “She throws Akshay off with her random behaviour.”

Reportedly, their sizzling chemistry went beyond a hot Salsa number and the camera. Chitrangda laughs off the rumours: “Akshay is an amazing co-star. Everyone on the sets agreed that we look good together. Even his make-up man, who’s an old guy, was telling my make-up man that we should do more films together. I hope it happens.”
