Yes, you read right. The much hyped item number from Ram Gopal Varma's film Department launching Nathalia Kaur is not original. The song Dan Dan Dana Dan has, in fact, been copied from a song featuring none other than Rajinikanth.

The Department song is inspired from the song Aasai Nooru Vagai from Rajinikanth's 1983 film Adutha Varisu.

The music for the original South Indian film has been composed by renowned music director Ilayaraja and has been sung by Malaysia Vasudevan. The song in Department has been sung by Paroma, Ravi, Sandeep Patil and the music has been provided by Bappi Lahiri, Dharam-Sandeep and Vikram Magi.

Dan Dan Dana Dan gained tremendous popularity for its catchy beats and racy picturisation featuring a skimpily clad Nathalia Kaur as Cheeni and also starring the film's lead actors Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubatti. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan in the lead as Sarjerao Gaikwad.

Aasai Nooru Vagai, on the other hand, features the Tamil superstar gyrating with many other such 'item girls'. The South Indian film stars Sri Devi as the female lead and sex siren Silk Smitha too featured in it.
