In 2004, Dhoom, a sleek movie about a gang of biker thieves, became a runaway hit and gave new momentum to the flailing careers of its lead actors Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham. Yash Raj Films went on to make a sequel, which was also a hit, and now the third film in the series, which stars Aamir Khan in a major role, is generating a lot of buzz.
While Abhishek has been retained as DCP Jai Dixit and Uday as his bumbling sidekick, another regular from the first two films, Rimi Sen, has been left out. Rimi played Abhishek’s wife Mrs Sweety Dixit, who at regular intervals starts mumbling in rapid-fire Bengali and has some funny sequences with Uday’s character Ali Akbar Fateh Khan in the films. But, Rimi won’t be part of the upcoming film, Dhoom:3.
According to Rimi’s spokesperson, the actor believes her role was not meaty enough in the first two parts and she would have turned down the offer for a part in the latest film, even if she had been asked. “Firstly, Rimi wasn’t approached for the film. She is happy that another sequel is being made, but she wasn’t excited about being part of it,” says Rimi’s spokesperson.
The actor was also not very satisfied with her role in Dhoom:2. “Though she had a good role to play in Dhoom:2, there was not much for her character to do. Rimi isn’t willing to do any guest appearances,” says the spokesperson.
