Almost two months after the first teaser was revealed, the makers of Rock On 2 released the first trailer of the film at a grand event on Monday.
Going by the two-and-a-half-minute long video, Shraddha Kapoor is the star in this one while Farhan certainly plays the mentor. However, the film doesn’t look like just the star’s journey, we see glimpses of the problems within the original Magik band with Arjun, Purab and Farhan having several heated discussions.
Actress Shraddha Kapoor has said it’s a dream come true to star in Rock On 2 and getting a chance to sing her own songs in the musical drama is like icing on the cake. Shraddha is among the new additions to the cast of Rock On, which is now returning for a sequel.
The 29-year-old actress said the 2008 film has been one of her favourites and she feels lucky that the makers signed her for the second part.
“I am exploring singing. I am liking this. Rarely does an actor get a chance to sing in his or her movie so, I feel extremely fortunate to have got this opportunity. Rock music is a new genre for me as a singer and it was challenging. But as I am a fan of this kind of music, it was special too that I got to sing these tracks.”,” she told reporters here at the film’s trailer launch.
The actress, who has sung a few Bollywood numbers, said it was challenging to dabble with rock music for Rock On 2.
“I always heard from musicians that nothing gives them more kick than performing live. Now that I have done that, I can vouch for it. It feels amazing,” she said.
When asked how much he misses Abhishek on the occasion, Farhan said, “I believe every person and film has their own journey... But of course he was a part of the first film so, I do miss him. He was, is and will always remain a friend.”
The 42-year-old actor, however, was quick to mention Shujaat Saudagar, the director of Rock On 2. “Let’s talk about Shujaat right now. He has made a wonderful film so, let’s focus on him...,” Farhan told the reporters.
The first part, which released in 2008, was about a rock band ‘Magik’ and its journey. The movie was loved for its music and the friendship of band members, played by Farhan, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny.
Farhan said the team has tried to match the emotional depth of the first film. “We have tried to portray the same emotional depth and layers as there were in ‘Rock On’. The members of ‘Magik’ have gone through a lot individually in these six years and the characters of Shraddha and Shashank Arora bring ‘Magik’ back.
“The band realises that music is what binds its people and keep them together. So there’s a lot of drama,” the actor said.
