Sequels are not a new thing for Bollywood. The audiences have been watching films that are promoted as the extension of the originals. Most of these films are nowhere close to the grip of the originals, simply because the directors have either introduced a lot of changes in the already existing story or they have just used to the name of an established franchise.
The latest crew to attempt a sequel is the team of Rock On 2, who have got a new director in Shujaat Saudagar. Rock On (2008) was directed by Abhishek Kapoor. Later, Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar had a fall out.
While they were ambitious rookies in Rock On, this time they are mostly established. Arjun Rampal (Joe) is now a known name in the music circuit. Aditya Shroff (Farhan Akhtar) also understands the intricacies of the music business, but it’s been eight years and they need new challenges to rediscover their rebellious inner selves.
At this juncture, they meet two youngsters, Jiah (Shraddha Kapoor) and Uday (Shashank Arora). The story has been relocated from Mumbai to the North East.
They have got older and wiser, but they wish to see their youth in the newcomers.
Rock On 2 relies on colour saturation and a thoughtful sound designing. The technicians have done well to give the songs a live orchestra feel.
This appears like one of those films which slowly grow on you.
Stay tuned for the complete review.
