Ranbir Kapoor's rockstar character in Imtiaz Ali's film is apparently inspired by the legendary tragic hero Devdas. In fact, the director is even contemplating ending the rockstar's life. If so, this would be Ranbir Kapoor's first on-screen death.

Rockstar, too, seems to be the story of a passionate man's unrequitted love. Ranbir Kapoor's character apparently cannot overcome his obsession with Nargis Fakhri's character, a role based loosely on Paro, reported Mumbai Mirror.

The Yeh Saali Zindagi actress Aditi Rao will allegedly be playing a role similar to Chandramukhi's character in the film.

Rockstar"The script’s climax originally has Ranbir’s character performing on stage and dying while doing so. It is meant to encapsulate Devdas through the self-destructive rockstar. However, Ranbir has a very youthful, very hip and trendy image and there is a line of thought about how Ranbir’s target audience will react to his first-ever screen death," a source told the tabloid.

Interestingly, the rockstar character is apparently both arrogant and sensitive and he believes he must fall in love to enhance his musical abilities and emote better.

"However, the problem arises when Ranbir’s character conditions himself to fall in love as an emotion-enhancing device and ends up actually in love, never to get back on his feet again," the source added.
