Actor Aanaahad, who starred in the critically acclaimed and National Award-winning film Lahore (2010) has finally signed his next. The movie titled, Chal Jhoothey, will go on the floors in a month and is slated for an end-of-the-year release. Though Aanaahad recently acted in the play Mohenjodaro, he declined numerous film offers that came his way. “Doing a play gives you the freedom to act,” he says, adding, “A film is an act of the director. I’m a better actor now.”
Having been offered lots of sports-oriented films since Lahore was the story of an Indian kickboxer, the actor made a conscious effort to not get stereotyped. Which is why, when the offer to do a romantic comedy came his way, he decided to take it up. “The film is the story of a guy who falls in love with a tomboyish girl. I found it exciting,” says Aanaahad, adding, “I didn’t want to do another sports film since even in Mohenjodaro, I have done a form of Manipuri martial arts.”
Directed by theatre veteran Kulvinder Bakshish, the director of the National Award nominated play Karna, Mohenjodaro was a period drama on the war between the Aryans and the Dravidians who ruled India in 2500 BC. The two female leads for the actor’s next film are still being cast. “I don’t know much about the new actors who will star opposite me, but I can guarantee one thing that the film is very different from any other romantic comedy that has been released in Bollywood,” he says.
