Shekhar Suman is leaving no stone unturned to make sure his directorial debut Heartless does well. He has now spent R1 crore to shoot a song for the romantic thriller which stars his son Adhyayan Suman.
Says Shekhar, “The title track of our film sung by Sonu Nigam is called ‘How can you be so heartless?’ It is a grand song with symphony, and Sonu has sung it brilliantly. Once we heard the recording, we realised the picturisation had been done well.” Shekhar did take a pause when he learnt about the budget of the song.
“As a producer I thought I couldn’t afford such an expensive song but it was the need of the hour. I haven’t kept track of the budget. Whether it’s Rs 1 crore or not, the song needed that kind of money. It is fully VFX-integrated and, after a long time, such a song will be seen on the big screen. I have been told that the last song which is similar, is probably Deepika Padukone’s number, ‘Tere naina’, from Chandni Chowk to China (2009),” he says.
Shekhar has roped in DOPs (director of photography) Derrick Fong, Richard Ng and Kenneth Tsang for his film. The trio has worked in Hollywood films Supercapitalist (2012), Die Another Day (2002) and Rush Hour 2 (2001) respectively.
Shekhar adds, “I am sure the song will be a talking point once it’s completed. We are extremely pleased with how it has turned out. It was a mammoth task to create a song which is pictured in a surreal world. It has elements like fire, earth, sky, snow, wind and mountains. The metaphor is that the hero’s life is crashing down.
The VFX effects will be completed in about 20 days.” The song has been choreographed by Adil Sheikh and the music is by newcomer Gaurav Dagaonkar. Shekhar says he’s indebted to Sonu, who didn’t charge a penny for rendering the song. “It was really sweet of Sonu. It’s not about the money but the gesture that is important.”
